Since the new Microsoft logo is receiving split reviews – some say that it’s lovely while some think that a kid could do better – web designer Lee a Ele thought about what would happen if other famous brand logos would undergo a rebrand such as Microsoft’s. Check out the “Microsofted” results below:

It’s safe to say that we would live in a brand-wise boring world if this were to be reality. But that makes me think – with this strong minimalist trend going around – will someday every large brand undergo a Microsoft-styled or similar makeover? It seems as minimalism is the future, but will pop culture turn around once more, as always, and make some other style the ultimate design and branding trend?

The minimalist trend is certainly interesting, and I think a lot of brands could pull it off. However, the mission of the company must be well represented in the logo and a lot of these examples simply would not work. Twitter, perhaps, because it a “minimalistic” social media platform, requiring less work from the user (compared to Facebook, etc).
I definitely agree with the premise of this article, though. Brands would be a lot less interesting if they were all to adopt this trend.
