For all of those who don’t like the new Microsoft logo and think it was made in MS Paint, here is another take on the brand’s identity, made by designer Andrew Kim last month, before the new Microsoft look was revealed.
I think it’s safe to say that this look would be wonderful for Microsoft, theoretically. The modern minimalism, the fantastically simple logo and the overall branding would make Microsoft look like it’s certainly heading for tomorrow, while being, visually, a tougher competitor to Apple then ever before. On the other hand, how would fans and customers react in the real world?
The next Microsoft is built around the belief and passion for the future. Innovation and progress are engraved into the culture and expressed to the public in a bold and mysterious fashion. I decided that Microsoft needs to be a brand that represents the future and be slightly aggressive unlike Apple and Google’s friendly marketing. Promise to deliver the future today. Be almost science fiction.

I’m really amazed at what Andrew Kim did with Microsoft’s brand. If you want to check out this take on Microsoft’s alternative branding a bit more, visit Andrew Kim’s website.
Also, while talking about Microsoft, new logos and such, check out this commercial for Windows 95. There’s something in it that rings a bell, doesn’t it?
