Audi AG has acquired partial proprietorship over the famous Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati. This is yet another move by German companies to make investments further south, on Italian market. According to Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG -

“Ducati is known worldwide as a premium brand among motorcycle manufacturers and has a long tradition of building sporty motorcycles. It has great expertise in high-performance engines and lightweight construction, and is one of the world’s most profitable motorcycle manufacturers. That makes Ducati an excellent fit for Audi.”

If we start comparing Ducati and Audi for their characteristics, we will soon come to conclusion that they are both well-known for its elegance, sporty design and improving performance. Nonetheless, they are not known for the high fuel efficiency, but that is what you get for these high volume engines.

Chairman of the General Works Council of AUDI AG, Peter Mosch, pointed out to the goals towards the global economy for this particular product:

“We must use the opportunities offered by globalization for Audi – and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Everyone at Audi is looking forward to working with our new colleagues from Ducati,” Mosch noted.

It is interesting that Audi paired up with Ducati. It is estimated that the growth of motorcycle sales will grow in the years to come, so it is expected to see the connection between Audi and Ducati. What is not included in this sample is the future economy of the transitional European markets that are still hurt by the recession. Will people go with the luxurious vehicles as they did so far or would they turn to alternative sources of high fuel efficiency? Audi probably figured it out already.
