HP‘s headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, recently announced that they launched eSmiles, a social project whose purpose is to raise funds and give emotional support to children and their families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses. Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent organization that creates and supports programs which “improve the health and well being of children across the world.”

eSmiles can take many forms, some of them include “get well” letters, personalized photos, cards, cartoons, and jokes, whose aim is to make children and their families laugh and feel better during difficult medical treatments.

They can be sent as an email, from almost anyone in the world (with an internet connection, of course), and, thanks to HP ePrint technology, they will come to life through an HP ePrint-enabled printer in the chosen Ronald McDonald House.  Not to stop at kind words and cute pictures, HP will donate $1 for each person who sends an eSmile between February 14 and April 15, to all the participating Ronald McDonald houses (up to $10 000 per house). Everyone interested in participating should go to the project’s website, or ePrint an eSmile directly from their mobile device.

Meanwhile, Take a look at the video HP prepared for the project:

Chuck Day, president and chief executive officer at San Diego Ronald McDonald House Charities commented on the project: “The eSmiles initiative will help lift our families’ spirits by bringing support from well-wishers around the world into San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House… HP’s generous donation will enable us to continue to provide a welcoming home away from home for families with a child facing a medical crisis.”

“The eSmiles program demonstrates how HP ePrint technology makes it possible for people to quickly and easily connect with one another from all corners of the globe, through the power of print… HP ePrint enables well-wishers to send messages of hope and cheer directly to an HP printer in a participating Ronald McDonald House as easily as sending an email.” added Manny Kostas, HP’s senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing and Strategy.

Ronald McDonald Houses in Atlanta, Chicago and Northwest Indiana, New York, Orange County (CA), and San Diego will all be participating in the eSmiles program.
