As a prelude to the 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion week, the company has commissioned photographer Alex Prager and Lara Stone, the key visual model of this year’s Fashion Week, to make a film featuring the new Mercedes Benz SL Roadster.
The film is called “Icons of Style”, as it was done in a collaboration between the German car manufacturer and Calvin Klein. Lara Stone, the Dutch super model, is dressed in a black CK dress designed by Francisco Costa, Calvin Klein’s women’s collection creative director.
As the SL Roadster is a reinterpretation of the 1950s classic sporty Mercedes Benz, the film itself was done as a reinterpretation of the movies from the “film noir” period. Elegantly dressed Lara is positioned in an almost surreal, steppe landscape, surrounded with dry grass and black skeleton trees – just the kind of scenery the renowned photographer pursuits in her shots. She often cites Frederico Fellini, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock as her inspiration, therefore Lara was chosen here to play “the update on the Hitchcock blonde, a strong protagonist who overcomes loneliness and fear”.
Lara was delighted to be a part of the project too:
“It’s an honor to work with Mercedes-Benz on a project like this. Both Mercedes-Benz and Calvin Klein Collection brands represent great luxury and timeless elegance and it was a really unique experience”, she said.

“Icons of Style”, the latest collaboration in a series, will make a debut in the US at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 from February 9-15, 2012.
