Nike Releases A State Of The Art Tennis Shoe by David Brbaklic
Nike’s legendary footwear designer Tinker Hatfield teamed up with Roger Federer to create an innovative shoe that would “give Roger an advantage on the tennis court”. The main challenge was to combine all the positive aspects of a running shoe (lightweight and breath ability) with the tremendous strength and stability a tennis shoe requires. The result is the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour shoe – “a unique package that’s different than any other tennis shoe out there”.

The innovative system called “Dynamic Fit” features a set of “fingers” on the shoe’s outer surface, and a loop system on the inside – working together as a pulley system. When the laces are wrapped all the way to the bottom, the shoe has a glove like feel, moving back and forth to fit any shape of the foot. Lightweight mesh was added to keep the foot cool, while a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) frame going from the middle of the shoe to the heel gives a high lever of stability and protection during lateral movement and quick directional changes. Lunar cushioning and a Nike Zoom unit work together in the heel for impact protection and extraordinary comfort.

To be honest, it’s not the prettiest looking shoe Nike has produced for Roger, but, if its good enough for the greatest tennis player of all time, it’s got to be good for the rest of us. Take a look at the video below where Roger and Tinker discuss the shoe’s features:
