Sexually Offensive Marc Jacobs Campaign? by Katarina Radovic

We all love Marc Jacobs because of its extravagancy and provocative campaigns, but maybe this time he have gone too far.  New celebrity face for his “Oh Lola!” fragrance is 17-years-old actress Dakota Fanning. It pink, romantic and girly, but it’s consider as to much provocative because Dakota is sitting in a short dress with a bottle of perfume between her legs. It’s kind of Lolita style. Because of its inappropriate sexuality for 17-years-old girl, British Advertising Standards Authority has banned this ad.

If I didn’t found out about this “failure” I wouldn’t even pay attention about that perfume bottle between her legs and I certainly wouldn’t found it inappropriate. My opinion has only changed because of 17-years-old girl, but still this commercial is not shocking enough to be problematic sexual provocation or offensive. We saw a lot of worse and more worrying commercials than this one, and I believe that this is just one more edgy fashion campaign.

The ASA said: “We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualize a child.”
