Finally, the world wide famous cab in NY will be changed! And it will be by one of the biggest producer of cars in the world, Nissan.

They are presenting their new NV200 at Design Expo in the public plaza adjacent to the Flatiron building. The project is called ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ and it is firstly based on the interior of the car, to give the maximum comfort to the passenger while driving through boulevards.

Joe Castelli, vice president, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles remarked on Monday’s media preview that NYC taxi’s have a heritage of being recognized for their exterior styling.

Nissan has studied passenger experience in the cab for the past few months, and tried to bring it to a new level. The interior of the cab was always a part of previous taxi conversions, but it was never a primary objective. The new NV200 offers incredible comfort and amenities not seen in the taxi fleet to date. The cars will start to glide throughout the streets in the beginning of 2013, and it will replace the existing fleet of vehicles.

The standout features will include a flat floor and cargo area which can support luggage for four passengers. Sliding doors will have sensors on the door handles that activate warning lights to alert approaching cyclists. USB charging points for cell phones and Laptops.  Also there will be an anti-microbial environmental friendly seat upholstery which was sourced from the marine industry that is easy to clean and hard wearing.

The Design Expo was officially opened yesterday at noon with a special program hosted by Ben Bailey of Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab Television game show. He will lead the program live from the Expo site with the New York online influencers as contestants. Also, local charity is provided. Additionally, Nissan’s social media fans on Twitter and Facebook will compete for a taxi prize pack as Ben challenges them with trivia questions via video.

The new cab will definitely help the passengers while traveling, it will increase their comfort and safety, and all that they have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Maybe they can tweet, just to pass the time.
